Job Summary
The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting liquid-filled pad-mounted transformers to ensure conformity with customer requirements, engineering specifications, and ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) procedures. This role supports product conformity, risk-based thinking, and continual improvement by performing inspections, maintaining accurate quality records, and participating in corrective and preventive actions.
A. Key Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of liquid-filled pad-mounted transformers in accordance with ISO 9001 procedures and work instructions
- Verify product conformity to drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and control plans
- Inspect mechanical and electrical components including tanks, welds, bushings, gaskets, radiators, grounding provisions, nameplates, and accessories
- Verify oil type, cleanliness, fill levels, and handling practices to prevent contamination and nonconforming products
- Ensure inspection and test equipment is identified, properly maintained, and within calibration per ISO 9001 requirements
- Accurately complete inspection records, checklists, and quality documentation to support traceability and record retention requirements
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming products in accordance with the Nonconformance Control procedure
- Initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
- Communicate quality issues effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams
- Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections related to the Quality Management System
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and contribute to process effectiveness and risk mitigation
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures
B. Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or associate degree preferred
- 2–5 years of quality inspection experience in electrical equipment, transformers, or industrial manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality system requirements
- Experience using inspection and measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, torque tools)
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
- Preferred:
- Experience inspecting liquid-filled pad-mounted transformers
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, and IEC standards applicable to transformers
- Experience with corrective action, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Prior involvement in ISO 9001 internal or external audits
