Position Overview
JST Power Equipment is seeking an Electrical GIS Field Service Technician to support installation, startup, and service of medium voltage gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). This role is structures to support a range of experience levels from L1 (entry-level) through L3 (advanced/startup capable).
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to support and train customers on JST equipment. This position plays a key role in representing JST and the OEM technical authority in the field.
A. Experience Levels
L1- Entry Level Technician
- Basic electrical/mechanical knowledge
- Assists with installation, inspection, and basic testing
- Works under supervision of senior technicians
L2- Intermediate Technician
- Performs inspections, troubleshooting, and basic startup support
- Supports pre-startup checks and functional verification
- Provides limited customer interaction and technical support
L3- Advanced Technician
- Leads startup and energization activities
- Performs advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Acts as on-site technical lead and customer interface
- Provides training and technical guidance to customers and junior technicians
B. Requirements
- Associate’s degree or technical certification (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience in electrical/mechanical service (field service preferred)
- Ability to travel up to 70%
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
C. Main Accountabilities
- Attending project meetings as required, including coordination with customers and team members.
- Installation and modification of electrical or mechanical components and subassemblies which may include Panelboard interiors; Circuit breakers; Bus bar; Switchgear section doors and subpanels; Addition of control components; Power cabling and control wiring.
- Perform basic testing of modified assemblies.
- Perform basic commissioning of switchboards, controls panels, and power products.
- Troubleshooting of electrical circuits and networking equipment.
- Coordinating with Technical Project Manager or manufacturing facilities to find solutions to product or commissioning issues identified by/or reported by the customer in the field and identifying additional field resources needed for installation and replacement parts.
- Performing preventive maintenance, field installations and modifications to existing equipment
- Customer facing culminations verbal / written (English)
- Technical product support
- Provide technical support and training to customers. Including equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and basic troubleshooting guidance.
- Support field activities including documentation and reporting
- Identify and communicate field issues, improvement opportunities, and customer feedback
- Perform preventive maintenance, upgrades, and warranty-related service
