Position Overview
Job Summary
The Marketing Engineer serves as the commercial and technical lead for medium-voltage power distribution opportunities prior to purchase order award. This role is responsible for evaluating customer requirements, developing quotations and proposals, assessing technical and commercial risks, supporting sales strategy, conducting competitive analysis, and positioning JST solutions to maximize customer value and business growth.
Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, the Marketing Engineer may support proposal activities under guidance, independently manage quotations, lead strategic pursuits, mentor team members, influence product strategy, and serve as a subject matter expert for market applications, competitive positioning, and commercial best practices.
A. Key Responsibilities
Proposal and Quotation Development
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and bid requirements.
- Develop technical and commercial proposals.
- Coordinate supplier quotations and internal cost information.
- Prepare pricing recommendations and quotation packages.
- Manage quotation schedules and submission requirements.
- Identify and communicate project risks, assumptions, and exclusions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with sales, engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and project teams.
- Support handoff of awarded projects to execution teams.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Support development of proposal standards and commercial best practices.
Standards and Product Knowledge
- Maintain expertise in JST products and applications.
- Apply relevant IEEE, ANSI, IEC, UL, utility, EPC, and customer requirements.
- Assist customers in identifying technically and commercially optimized solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to sales and marketing teams.
Customer Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical-commercial point of contact during pursuit activities.
- Support customer meetings, presentations, and negotiations.
- Respond to technical and commercial inquiries.
- Communicate proposal value, differentiators, and compliance.
- Support strategic account development efforts.
Commercial Strategy
- Evaluate opportunities for technical fit, profitability, and strategic value.
- Develop competitive positioning strategies.
- Recommend pricing and commercial approaches.
- Analyze commercial risk and support decision-making processes.
- Participate in bid reviews and opportunity strategy discussions.
Market and Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor market trends and customer requirements.
- Conduct competitive analysis and market research.
- Evaluate emerging business opportunities and industry developments.
- Support development of market strategies and growth initiatives.
- Contribute insights for product roadmap and portfolio development.
B. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or electrical power industry experience.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and single-line diagrams.
- Strong analytical and business decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
C. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, or power distribution equipment.
- Knowledge of power system protection concepts and ANSI device functions.
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and UL standards.
- Experience with CRM, ERP, and quotation management systems.
- Experience in proposal development, technical sales, product management, or marketing.
- Manufacturing or engineered-to-order business experience
